Chevy Cruze Dashboard Light Guide

If you’re driving around Manhattan, Junction City, or Wamego, KS, and see one of your dashboard lights come on, you may be wondering about next steps. While some of these lights are there to warn you about serious issues within your vehicle, others simply indicate a system is operational, so knowing the difference can help you decide where to go from there.

Low Fuel Warning Light

We’ll start things off with a dashboard light that you may encounter more frequently than some of the others. It also doesn’t indicate that something is wrong with your vehicle (although it still demands that you take action). That’s right, it’s the tried-and-true Low Fuel Warning Light. Once this comes on, you should make a stop at the pump and fuel up your Cruze sooner rather than later. How convenient!

    Check Engine Light

    One of the most important Chevy Cruze warning lights you’ll encounter is the Check Engine light. This looks like an engine and relates to one of the many components within your engine, but the issues it indicates can range from spark plugs to a loose gas cap or something more serious. If you’re driving around and see this light, it’s best to head to the nearest Chevy service center to have it checked out by a qualified service technician.

      Tire Pressure Warning Light

      Your vehicle has a built-in pressure monitor for your Chevrolet tires, indicated by the tire pressure warning light. This looks like an exclamation point with parentheses on the either side. While it most often indicates one or more tires are low, a tire leak or other repair could be the issue.

        Anti-Lock Braking System

        Your anti-lock braking system warning light, indicated by the ABS symbol, relates to your braking system and components. This system is designed to help you keep traction in slippery road conditions, so if the ABS warning light comes on, it’s important to take it to a service center as soon as possible, because you may need brake replacement or repair.

          Oil Pressure Warning Light

          Your oil pressure warning light monitors the oil pressure within your engine. It looks like an old-fashioned oil lamp. A number of issues could cause this light to come on, and an oil leak, low oil pressure, or other oil problems could leave your engine vulnerable to overheating or damage, so it should be checked immediately.

            Charging System Light

            Your battery charging system monitors your battery and electrical system. It looks like a battery with a positive and negative sign. Since a healthy battery is necessary for your vehicle to run, a problem with your charging system or battery itself could leave you stranded. If you see this light come on, you should have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible.

              Traction Control System

              Your Cruze has traction control and stability control systems designed to keep the vehicle stable in severe conditions. This system is active unless you turn it off, in which case the letters TC (within a set of parentheses, with a line through them crossing them out) will appear on your dash. If you didn’t turn the system off, but see this light, it could mean there’s an issue within the system, and you should reach out to us.

                Vehicle Ahead Indicator and Forward Collision Alert (FCA) System

                This symbol looks like a regular car viewed from behind, and it comes in three different colors. A green indicator means that the system detects a vehicle ahead; an amber indicator means you’re following the vehicle in front of you much too closely; and a flashing rear alert (which will be visible on the windshield) accompanied by rapid beeping means you’re approaching the vehicle ahead of you dangerously quickly.

                  Pedestrian Ahead Indicator and Front Pedestrian Braking (FPB) System

                  Similar to the Vehicle Ahead Indicator is the Pedestrian Ahead Indicator. It quite literally looks like a person walking across the street, and it comes on in an amber color if a nearby pedestrian happens to walk directly in front of your car. If the accompanying system notices that you’re approaching dangerously quickly, the icon will flash red as it either boosts or automatically applies your brakes. What a potential lifesaver!

                    Lane Keep Assist (LKA) Light and Lane Departure Warning (LDW)

                    This icon looks like the Vehicle Ahead Indicator, except this time the car is bordered by two dashed lines that represent lanes. When it’s green, that means the system is prepared to kick into action if needed; if you start to approach one of the lane markings (without indicating with your signal) and the system does turn on, the light will turn amber; if you’ve actually physically crossed the marking, it’ll flash.

                      Miscellaneous Dashboard Lights

                      We’d also like to mention a few miscellaneous, low-impact dashboard lights. These are so self-explanatory that they don’t necessarily warrant a full section like the ones above.
