The 2018 Tahoe is equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 that produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a six-speed transmission. It’s a powerful engine that can run on half its cylinders for low-load situations to save fuel, and can tow up to 8,600 pounds when properly equipped.

The Tahoe uses a coil-sprung solid rear axle to improve the overall ride quality, which gives it body control and precise handling. There’s also an optional four-wheel drive system that can include a two-speed transfer case with high- and low-range for off-roading.

As part of the Performance Package upgrade, a new optional engine is a 6.2-liter V8 that produces 420 horsepower and is mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission. This package also includes the Borla exhaust for more horsepower and better sound, as well as GM’s Ride Control Shocks, which is designed to smooth the ride over rough terrain and tighten handling.

    The Tahoe’s main purpose is utility, but that doesn’t mean it skimped on looks. A chrome grille and semi-split headlights add to the smooth lines of the new Tahoe exterior, and many other accents are available throughout the trim levels. Inside, the logical layout of the dashboard complements the base cloth or leather upholstery for an appealing cabin look. 

    Bucket or bench seats are available for the front, each of which are comfortable, power-adjustable, and made with quality materials. Row two offers plenty of space and comfort as well, and the 40/60-split bench allows for more cargo space. There’s also an available rear captains seats upgrade to allow more room to access the third row, though it’s easy to access on its own and offers plenty of head- and legroom.

    The real marvel is the Tahoe’s cargo space. With the second and third row folded, there’s 95 cubic feet of space. With the second row upright, there’s 52 cubic feet of space. With all three rows upright, there’s 15.3 cubic feet of space.

      Dual-zone climate control, an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and GM’s OnStar system with 4G LTE antenna are all standard on the base Tahoe. Several other packages are offered, and some other optional features include push-button start, power-folding seating, a heated steering wheel, rear-seat DVD entertainment. There’s also a full suite of advanced safety features available.
