Equinox Accident Detection and Prevention

Within the standard Chevy Safety Assist package, you can find six advanced tech features that help protect you. Many of them will detect and help prevent an accident before it occurs. The following standard system, part of the above package, alerts you to potential danger either ahead of you or behind you:

• Automatic Emergency Braking—This engages if your vehicle senses a potential collision and applies the brakes if you fail to do so.
• Forward Collision Alert—This alert nudges you if you follow the car ahead too closely or you may be headed for a crash.
• Front Pedestrian Braking—If your car senses a pedestrian or moving obstacle passing in front of you, this system alerts you and applies the brakes if you don’t.

Another available preventive measure, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, checks behind you and sounds an alert if you don’t see an object, pedestrian, or another car that’s in the rear when backing out.

    Lens on Safety

    The Equinox employs cleverly placed cameras and mirrors around your car to help you see behind you with more definition. These systems give you extra eyes just when you need them:

    • Rear Vision Camera—With this camera, you can clearly see what’s happening behind you.
    • Rear Camera Mirror—An expanded view of your rear comes with this mirror, which presents a wider view, free from most obstructions, for easier reverse.

    Two other available systems give you even more control when you drive with the assistance of the camera eye:

    • HD Surround Vision—This camera features several different rear views combined into a high-resolution “bird’s-eye” master view.
    • Adaptive Cruise Control - Camera—This intuitive system uses a camera to manage your cruise control and maintain a preset distance from the car ahead of you.

      Sticking with a Lane

      We all get distracted from time to time while driving, whether we reach for a tissue or change the radio station, so Chevy thought of that. Your Equinox comes with standard Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. This device helps you avoid a crash with some gentle steering if you begin to drift out of your lane.

      To detect what’s in your blind spots while giving you the okay to change lanes, the available Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert shows visual alerts in your side mirrors. These show you if a car suddenly appears in your blind spot and when they disappear.
