Any good car comparison has to begin with what’s new for this model year, and when it comes to the 2018 Chevy Cruze vs 2018 Ford Focus, the Chevy Cruze wins out. Why is this? Simply, it’s because Ford gives you zero changes, updates or upgrades this year. Chevy, on the other hand, has made the decision to offer the optional diesel engine on the hatchback configuration as well as on the sedan, a welcome change for those who like diesel power and fuel economy.

    Technology Offerings

    Both cars offer a good suite of technology and convenience features. The 2018 Chevy Cruze comes out ahead, though, with offerings such as full Apple and Android smartphone app integration, an infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen interface, 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, OnStar telematics, four speakers, a USB port and more, all at the base entry level trim.
    Compare this to the Ford Focus, whose entry level trim nets you four speakers, Bluetooth, a USB port, and a 4.2-inch display that isn’t touchscreen. Looking for a touchscreen? You’ll need to step up to the third trim. The same goes for Android and Apple functionality. It costs you two trim levels in features and cost to get there.

      Power and Fuel Economy

      Once again, we see the Chevy Cruze beats out the Ford Focus in both power and fuel economy. Even at the base level, the 1.4-liter engine in the Cruze gives you 153 horsepower with 177 pound-feet in torque, while the Focus only puts out a meager 123hp/125 lb.-ft.
       
      What about upgrades? Well, with the Cruze you can get that Diesel engine which gives you 137 horses and 240 pound-feet, as opposed to Ford, which requires you to go all electric if you want to upgrade, and then you’ll only get 143 horses and 184 pound-feet.

      Gas mileage? The Diesel engine on the Cruze can pull out an EPA-estimated 51 miles per gallon. Certainly the all-electric Focus doesn’t need gas, but it can only go 115 miles before needing to recharge for hours, so forget taking a road trip in it.
