Interior Space and Comfort
The Equinox and the Explorer are both roomy inside and offer large cargo bays. The Equinox is more decadent inside, however, with heavily bolstered seats and high-end materials that give the cabin more elegance and appeal. The Explorer has a durable interior with high-end options available for higher trim levels, but its basic design is more pedestrian.
The Chevy Equinox also has a roomier back seat with ample head- and legroom for passengers to stretch and relax, while the Explorer has a cramped second and third row with thinly padded seating that’s lacking in comfort for a long drive.
In the cargo hold, the Equinox has 29.9 cubic feet of cargo space that expands to 63.9 cubic feet with the seats folded flat. With all seats upright, the Explorer has a small 21 cubic feet of space, which expands to 39.2 cubic feet with the third row folded. Both vehicles have small cubbies and bins for small-item storage within the cabin.
