Both the 2019 Equinox and Acadia have decent interior cargo rooms, but the Acadia itself is much larger and doesn’t quite fit the definition of a compact SUV as well as the Equinox. You’ll find that you can squeeze six people into the Acadia, whereas five will fit comfortably in the Equinox. 

In terms of exact cargo room, the Acadia can store up to 79 cubic feet of cargo when the second row is folded down, while the Equinox can fit up to 63.9 cubic feet with its second row folded down. While there’s more room in the Acadia, it does come at the expense of some other capabilities.

Despite the size and engine of the Acadia, the Equinox far outperforms the Acadia when it comes to towing capacity. The Equinox can tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped, which is extremely impressive for a compact SUV. The Acadia, meanwhile, requires a lot of upgrades to tow that amount.

    Compact SUVs offer a fantastic balance of size and power. When you compare the Equinox and Acadia, each one has a varied choice of drivetrains. The standard Acadia engine is a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that produces a healthy 193 horsepower, and you’ll find front-wheel drive to be the standard offering. 

    On the other hand, the Equinox offers a standard 1.5L Turbo 4-cylinder engine that produces 170 horsepower as well as a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Equinox offers two additional engine choices in the form of a 2.0L Turbo option that kicks out 252 horsepower and an efficient 1.6L Turbo-Diesel engine.

    Active safety features are becoming more standard, and the Chevy Equinox and Acadia both do not disappoint. However, the Equinox simply has more to offer. In the Acadia, you’ll get a standard Rear Vision Camera and a Teen Driver system, which allows parents to monitor teen driving and set driving and infotainment parameters.

    The standard safety features of the Equinox include a Rear Vision Camera and Teen Driver system as well, but it goes even further for your safety. In fact, the 2019 Equinox offers such options as a Confidence & Convenience Package, which includes features like Rear Park Assist, a Universal Home Remote, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

      Interior Size & Technology

      Passenger comfort and space are important reasons to choose a compact SUV. The Equinox and Acadia match comfort levels, and the driver and front passenger have more than satisfactory space. While both SUVs are comfortable, though, you can see higher quality materials in the Equinox, even in the base level. 

      While the GMC Acadia may include a little more room for passengers, you’ll find its overall dimensions to be much larger than those of the Chevy Equinox. Due to its larger size, it’s also far heavier, resulting in the Acadia being less maneuverable than its Chevy counterpart.
