Community Spotlight: Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan

When it comes to educational resources for children of any age, the Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan has you covered. Located in a neighborhood-based building created specifically for youth activities, the Club offers a wide selection of programs throughout the year. They are located in 10 sites eithin Manhattan and Wamego, and serve over 2,800 members. You can enroll your child in supplemental academic learning, character building, or general healthy living programs with professional youth development staff.

Programs

Healthy Lifestyles

The Club offers several informative programs to teach children about the importance of healthy lifestyles. These teachings span all aspects of health, from eating healthfully and having well-rounded interpersonal skills to exercising to promote physical fitness.
Triple Play is offered daily and helps children make positive decisions about their health, fitness, and well-being through social recreation and some structured learning activities.
SMART MOVES/LifeSkills was designed to develop self-actualizing adults through positive engagement with others, goal-setting, and preventative education on substance abuse.

    Academic Success

    The Club’s Project Learn furthers the knowledge that children learn at school through high-yield learning exercises. Essentially, the idea is that fun and academically beneficial activities help children do better in school. Some of these activities include leisure reading, homework help, Scrabble®, and writing activities.
    To further spatial skills and emphasize creativity, children become educated about the principles of art—line, color, texture, space, form, and shape—through artistic exercises using many different mediums. Additionally, the Digital Art Suites is comprised of a 15-station lab where kids can learn about web design, digital photography, and graphic design.

      Elementary School Clubs 

      These before- and after-school programs can be found at either the main building or several affiliate elementary schools in the area. Through these partnerships, the Club promotes healthy living, good character and citizenship, and academic success.
      Two noteworthy teaching plans include the KidzLit and Kansa Reading Roadmap, which are implemented to help children’s literacy through structured reading as well as fun learning activities. Club members can also get homework assistance during the program.

        Middle School After-School Programs 

        Your teenager can learn just about anything with the after-school programs offered by the Boys and Girls Club of Manhattan. Take art classes, cooking classes, learn how to budget money, or work on STEM-based assignment.
        7th through 12th graders can enroll in Teen Nights every Friday to go on field trips, play club sports, dance parties, and college visits to help prepare them for their out-of-school future and develop meaningful connections.
