Food is not only a bond for us in our social world, but it is also an essential part of our everyday life. Some, unfortunately, may not know exactly where their next meal is coming from or when. That is why the work that organizations like Harvesters do is extremely important as they dedicate their time and resources to helping feed everyone and implementing changes to end hunger.

Providing Meals for All 

As a food bank, Harvesters is able to distribute food and related household products to hundreds of nonprofit agencies. Whether their food is being sent to disaster-relief sites, children’s homes, or homeless shelters, they make sure everyone in the community is getting the food they need on their plates.

Within the past year, they have been able to deliver more than 47 million meals to hungry people throughout the region. They are able to accomplish such a feat by partnering with local growers, wholesales, manufacturers, and other helpful businesses to donate excess or unused food instead of throwing it out.

They then are able to get this food from local and even national donors back to their warehouse, where they are able to store it using safe food-handling practices. Then once it is needed, they send it off to help provide the nutrition everyone needs.

    Programs Harvesters Offer to Help End Hungry 

    They also have successful programs they run with the ultimate goal of helping to feed everyone. Their family programs help make sure parents are getting the right groceries to feed their family. They even provide holiday meals that makes sure families in need in the community also have a special feast for the occasion.

    They also have programs for kids that help instill healthy values, like their BackSnack program that provides weekly nutritious snacks for children as well as their School Pantry Program that helps children make sure they are getting balanced meals throughout the school day.

    Harvesters also has their Senior Mobile Food Pantries which brings those living in housing communities’ fresh fruits, vegetables, and more right to them. On top of all the food they provide for individuals and families in need, they also help educate the community as well as the organizations they donate to. Through these services, people can learn how to cook and eat healthier no matter their budget.

      Harvesters can always use extra help with their cause! You can donate food, produce from your garden, or even start a food drive with your club or friends.

      They also can use the extra hands when it comes time to organizing and sporting through the food they receive. You can schedule to have the office come by and volunteer or sign up your child’s boy or girl scout troop to help. Just a couple hours of your time will make a huge difference!
