There are various organizations all doing their part to help the communities of Manhattan, Junction City, and Wamego, and that includes Manhattan Area Habitat for Humanity.

With the generous help from volunteers, their mission is to create a world in which everyone has a place to live and roof over their head.

How Manhattan Area Habitat for Humanity Achieves Their Goals

With their mission always in mind, Manhattan Area Habitat for Humanity is able to find new solutions to creating stable housing situations for all. They have a dedicated team working hard to make a positive impact on the community.

Not only does the organization build homes for families, veterans, and others in need, but it also helps provide affordable home maintenance care for homeowners as well. They also help provide opportunities for those in need with their various orientations, workshops, and community outreach programs they host.

    Ways to Get Involved

    If you are looking to get yourself involved and support their mission, you can spend some time volunteering with them. Help them on-site during the construction of a home or even lend your expertise for home repairs. Whether you have a steady hand for painting or enjoy doing landscaping, you can fill out their Volunteer Interest Form and get started on making someone’s home looking its best.

    If you don’t feel confident as a handyman or handywoman, not to worry! They also are in need of volunteers to help with administrative tasks in the office as well as volunteers to help during events they have.

    You can also donate funds or materials to Manhattan Area Habitat for Humanity through their ReStore. With its new location, you can stop by their ReStore and drop off any appliances, furniture, or any other home goods to them. According to Melody Sexton, the Habitat ReStore is their year-round fundraiser for MAHFH. It is an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity and they are responsible for raising funds for their own projects. Profits from the ReStore fund their operating costs – allowing them to use donations and grant monies for construction, repair and advocacy programs.

      Join for One of Their Special Events

      Throughout the year, Manhattan Area Habitat for Humanity also hosts a variety of fun events you can join for that ultimately help benefit their cause. In September, MAHFH celebrated its 25th year of service to the local community. On October 7, 2019 – World Habitat Day – they celebrated locally with a Proclamation from the Manhattan City Commission, which was signed by Mayor Dodson. Anniversary milestones and events will continue throughout the year.

      In the past, they have done their Women Build event as a fun and meaningful way to empower women to learn construction skills. They have even had various fundraisers like their Chocolate, Tea, and Wine event, which was a fun time for all ages as people auctioned for various items!

        Reach out to Manhattan Area Habitat for Humanity to learn more about upcoming volunteer opportunities. Also, be sure to stop by their Habitat ReStore, which has a new location. On November 7, 2019, they are moving the Habitat ReStore, as well as their MAHFH offices, into one building located at 514 Pillsbury Drive. Sexton advised that this move has enabled them to keep their staff small, multitask and cross-train employees and maximize proceeds from the ReStore. You can drop off any donations you have or even shop among the discounted home improvement supplies they have.
