Welcome to the Jungle at Sunset Zoo

If you want to walk among the animals, set your GPS to the Sunset Zoo in nearby Manhattan, KS. Named the Best Zoo in Kansas, it hosts over 200 animals from the Americas, Africa, Australia, and Asia. You can see mammals, birds, fish and reptiles, amphibians, and more residing at their naturally landscaped grounds.

Visiting Zoo Exhibits

Grab a map before you enter to plan which exhibit you wish to see first. Head for the hyenas or cheetahs on the African Trail or hightail it toward the South American Trail where you can catch your first rose-gold glimpse of the flamingoes. As you move through the exhibits, you will spy indigenous Kansas animals such as prairie dogs or more exotic creatures like a tiger or emu. You may think you’re not in Kansas anymore! (wink-wink)

    Take a Class Trip to the Zoo

    Looking for a unique educational experience for your class? Exit the classroom and enter the zoo for a walk on the wild side. You can plan a trip or sign up to have the zoo come to you.

    Sunset Zoo offers a variety of classes that focus on nature-based learning for preschool-aged children through Zoofari Tails on up through elementary-aged students. At their camps, campers encounter real live animals at the Nature Exploration Center and learn about their environments.

      Schedule a Celebration

      With their idyllic outdoor settings and modern indoor facilities, your celebration can include all creatures great and small. Whether you schedule a birthday party, wedding, or other fuzzy fiesta, it’s sure to be an event with a lot of monkeying around. For Instagram-worthy photos, be sure to snap some at the Gardens in the Zoo.

      If you really want to go ape, enroll in their Behind the Scenes Encounters. You get a bird’s-eye view of the inner workings of the Sunset Zoo from experienced zoo guides who will show you what really happens when guests say, “Goodnight, Gorilla,” and the zookeepers take over.

        Sunset Zoo Conservation Projects

        Conservation efforts at the Sunset Zoo span the globe from local concerns to international endeavors. Currently, the zoo works with over 200 zoos across the country through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to save numerous different species from extinction. Many financial contributions to sponsor their efforts come from the Friends of Sunset Zoo’s Conservation Team who work tirelessly to fundraise for this worthy cause.

        Animal lovers can volunteer to become a Friend. After your training period, you can provide guided tours, teach education classes, participate in animal observations and conservation efforts, and help out at community events. This way you give back to the zoo, the community, and every animal that graces the earth.
